From the Divine~
The Divine is beautiful, strong, eternal.
The Divine is life and death, male, female, spirit and soul.
The Divine is all of us.
The Myth:
In the beginning, there was the Divine One. Love in it’s purest form.
In order to increase in strength, the Divine took two aspects of itself, male and female, and sent them outward to the universe, to the earth upon which we dwell.
She became the earth and the water.
He became the air and the fire.
She became Goddess. He became God.
They are called by many names. They are The Great Mother and Father, Lord and Lady, Goddess and Horned God, as well as a myriad of names given to them by different people from different places at different times.
The Goddess manifested herself through the all that grows from the earth and waters. She receives her warmth from the air from God , and God also moves her from below, as the fires under her.
God is apparent in his solar form, which he governs. This heats the earth and helps Her life to spring forth. Goddess is apparent as the lunar form, which she governs. She uses the moon to move her waters and to create mystery. Her coolness helps to temper the heat from the sun.
Goddess instills in us emotions and ideas, and God helps to propel those, to bring those thoughts into action.
Reflections:
Sometimes for some people, Goddess is not as evident as God because she is everywhere. She is everything we walk on, eat, touch and feel… she is SO present that often mankind has neglected to remember her. It is easy to recognize God … we look to the sky above and see the sun… we forget that it is HER which we stand on to see this.
As we envision our Lord and Lady, as we create them in physical form in our mind, we are able to direct love and admiration and respect toward them. When we send them this love, it goes straight to the Divine. Which strengthens the Divine and in turn strengthens us.
We are all part of the Divine. We are created by divinity. When we send love to the Divine through the manifestation of the God and Goddess, we are sending love to ourselves. When we invision our Lord and Lady in the form we are comfortable with, it is easier for us to communicate with them and therefore communicate with the divine.
We can even take the energy we send to our Lord and Lady and use it to direct at an intention we have in order to create change for ourselves. As in magick.
More of the Myth:
At Yule, Lord and Lady are young. The sun is not so strong, but the Air is evident all around us. It is crisp and chilled. The earth has not awoken, but She is still evident in our moon that never leaves us. They both grow… as God strengthens, he is able to warm Her.
Imbolc comes and both our young Goddess and our young Horned God are becoming more active in the physical plane… You can smell the life stirring just under the earths surface, being brought to wakefulness and rebirth through the warmth of the God. IT is time of Earth and of the East… it is her time… the wet soil smells of rejeuvination.
At Ostara, when Day and Night are equal, we have our Lord and Lady conjoined in Love, working together to bring life to light. All of the physical realm has awakened. It is the dawn of the year.
Beltaine is a time of Fire and it is the full commitment and mature union between our Horned God and Goddess. It is predominantly a time of our God. Hail the King! Sexuality, and lust, love and procreation! It is like the mid morning of the day! The beginning of the light half of the year!
At Litha, we recognize that although it is the longest Day, the inward spiral will begin. Litha is the counterpart to Yule. Although it is akin to Noon of the day.. with sun at its peak… we know that in the time to follow, darkness will come. For now however, it is still a time of rejoicing long days and short nights.
God and Goddess are at their peak of life. All is growing and blooming and the fruits of their union will be evident soon.
They dance into Harvest Home, or Mabon. Their union has brought forth the visible life, vegetables, fruits, grains, it is a time to feast! Rejoice! Our mother has brought forth much life! It is the time of the Mother, and of water, and of a more evident inward spiral. The God’s sun remains hot. It burns fiercely. Like the mid-afternoon sun on a hot summer day. Although it can still scald us with its heat, we know that little time is left before the darkness arrives again.
The Lord and Lady age gracefully. Between his horns burns a flame. Her hair is whitening, but her skin is soft and gentle.
Autumn Equinox. Day and night are equal once again. The inward spiral is very evident, as the outward life on earth is begining to wane… leaves are falling, fruit is falling. Growing things give out their last bits of life to fill our bellies and hearts. It is the Dusk of the year.
We have passed the season of water and turned toward the North. Samhain. The twilight of the year. Veils between the worlds are at thier thinnest.
The New Year has begun. It is the Dark Time. Lord and Lady have gone to the underworld together. Their physical selves no longer a large presence on the earth. Her moon still travels across the sky, his air still moves through our hair and we feel their spiritual presence. They have not died, but gone inward to await their rebirth at Yule.
Our Horned God has become the Lord of Misrule, and he will move the air above, while still holding reign the underworld, the flames of the earth. Our Great Mother will rule at his side, directing the waters above, although her phsyical body of earth will sleep. Rain will fall, rivers will fill and lead back to the Ocean. Her Moon will still be above, and it will reflect His light, to remind us that they have not left us.
God and Goddess are in us all. When we honour them, we honour ourselves.
When we honour the air, and the earth and the fire and water, we honour ourselves. We build the divinity within.
